The Velvet Trend for Fall 2017

Velvet Trend

The Velvet trend is a very happening thing this season. Rather than focus on a designated color for Fall, this season the fashion industry introduced a whole fabric that quickly became a popular element in our Autumn wardrobes. It seems it all started with velvet blazers and pant suits, but the shiny, rich material quickly spread to everything from evening gowns to shoes and accessories. However, following the velvet trend can be a bit tricky. Scroll below for fail-proof ways to incorporate this style into your Fall looks.

Velvet Trend Velvet Jumpsuit

Velvet Trend in Red

During fashion week, I was invited to Bloomingdale’s to preview their current collections. One of the looks I completely fell in love with was this burgundy velvet suit paired with a bright red jacket. It seems perfect for Fall and for the upcoming holiday season and can be worn together or separate with basics like jeans, turtlenecks or a camel coat.

Velvet Trend: The Jumpsuit

The velvet influence was present during Fashion Week, both on and off the runway. At the Lan Yu show, I had my eye on this green one piece which can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Jumpsuits are so easy to wear (except for when you gotta pee!) and I love that this Fall these pieces will continue to be a staple in our closets. This color will also be in trend for both this Fall/Winter and next Spring.

Velvet Trend Nastygal Blue Velvet Pant Suit

Velvet Pantsuit

One of my readers sent me this gorgeous look she purchased from Nasty Gal after seeing one of the posts on my Facebook page. I can’t get enough of how gorgeous and sexy she looks in it!! This exactΒ velvet suit sold out very quickly but you can also get a similar one from BoohooΒ or Forever21.

Velvet Bags

I’m totally in love with velvet accessories this season! Luckily, stores are filled to the brim with them πŸ™‚ For fashion week, I grabbed this flower embroidered bag, which received many compliments! It was such a steal for under $150, when similar pieces go for ten times as much!! Rebecca Minkoff, my favorite handbag designer, has also embraced this material for their backpacks and handbags. These accessories will look lovely this winter paired with sheepskin boots and winter coats.

Velvet Shoes & Boots

Every store I pass by has a velvet display and I’m loving it! Something about it reminds me that the holidays are coming πŸ™‚ It must be all the silver and shiny details paired with a rich fabric. To spice up your look this season, add a velvet bootie or sneaker to a casual look for an instant update, or opt out for a pair of velvet pumps to sprinkle some glam into your evening look.

Velvet Trend - Velvet Dress

Velvet Dress

Probably the trickiest way to wear the velvet trend is as a dress. The shiny fabric can make one look heavier than they really are, so look for dresses with a clearly defined waste or something with details in other textures like lace or leather. Bloomingdale’s has a great selection of different dresses as well as Nordstrom.

Β Velvet Trend - Velvet Kimono

Velvet Kimonos

This beautiful and feminine trend is so comfortable and easy to wear!! Just throw a kimono on top of an everyday tank and jeans and your look is complete. However, to make it more appropriate for fall, kimonos are now also available in velvet for a cozier, more weather-appropriate feel.
